2001 Grenache Boundary Row
Producer: Kurtz Family Winery
Drink from Oct. 2002 to Dec. 2004
Rating: 87
Market Price: $18.99
Tasting Notes:
The dark ruby/garnet-colored 2001 Grenache Boundary Row displays a distinctive aroma of root beer. Spicy and earthy, with copious quantities of peppery, sassafras characteristics presented in a medium-bodied style, it will drink well for 1-2 years. |

2001 Shiraz (Syrah)
Producer: Amon-Ra
Drink from: Oct. 2002 to Dec. 2014
Rating: 91
Market Price: $39.99
Tasting Notes:
The 2001 Shiraz, which was aged in 100% new American oak pungeons (foudres), was to be bottled without filtration. It exhibits abundant amounts of concentrated cassis and blackberry fruit intermixed with subtle touches of licorice, dried herbs, and smoke. There is great fruit on the attack, mid-palate, and finish as well as considerable glycerin, a compelling opulence, admirable purity, and a long, 30-second finish. It is a terrific, youthful, yet accessible Shiraz to consume during its first 10-12 years of life. This offering was bottled shortly after I tasted it. It will be released in late 2002 or early 2003. The private label of Ben Glaetzer, the Egyptian name refers to a temple that historically was believed to have had the largest vineyard in ancient Egypt. |

2001 Shiraz The Bogan (Syrah)
Producer: Kaesler
Drink from Aug. 2003 to Dec. 2015
Rating: 93
Market Price: $56.00
Tasting Notes:
Even better than the Old Vine, is the 2001 Shiraz The Bogan, produced from a 40-year old vineyard situated near the Greenock Creek Winery. Aged in 100% new American oak for 20 months prior to being bottled unfiltered, this is a hedonistic, full throttle, pedal to the metal, top-class Australian Shiraz. Sweet vanilla and caramel notes intermingled with smoky black currant and blackberry fruit jump from the glass of this hedonistic, opulent, voluptuously-styled Shiraz. With decent acidity, ripe tannin, and a layered, blockbuster finish, this stunning effort will drink well for 10-12 years. |

Place roast in a shallow baking pan. Heat oil in
small saucepan and add garlic and salt and pepper. Mix
well, brush over roast, and let stand at room temperature
for 2 hours. Preheat oven to 450 F. Roast for 10 minutes
in uncovered pan, then reduce heat to 350 F and continue

pan drippings from time to time. Roast 15 minutes more
if you want a medium roast, another 15 minutes for well
