Spicy Southwestern Pork-Turkey Burgers

Cooking method: Grilling
Serves 6
Total preparation time: 17 min. – 20 min.
Mixing ground turkey with ground pork produces a juicy, flavorful burger that is not overpowered by pork. By itself, pork is too strongly flavored for burgers.

1 1/4 pounds ground turkey breast
3/4 pound ground pork
1/3 cup red peppers, chopped
1/4 cup scallions, chopped
1/4 cup cilantro, chopped
1 Jalapeno, seeded and chopped
1 1/2 tablespoons chili powder
1 teaspoon cumin, ground
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper, freshly ground
vegetable oil cooking spray

1. Combine the turkey, pork, peppers, scallions, cilantro, jalapeno, chili powder, cumin, salt, and pepper in a large bowl. Using your hands, mix well. Form into 6 patties. Refrigerate until ready to grill.

2. Prepare a charcoal or gas grill. Lightly spray the grill rack with vegetable oil cooking spray. The coals should be hot.

3. Grill the burgers for about 10 minutes. Turn and grill for 7 to 10 minutes longer for medium-well burgers. Serve with a salsa.
